Given the massive volumes of memos, reports, files, and documents, plus a plenty of other things, there’s no question why some of us enter our offices with clutter greeting us from the work desk. This could affect the way you work, and can cause reduction in productivity.
Make a quick escape from clutter by following these tips we’ve compiled below!
Save only the stuff you need.
Most of the time, our desks are filled with things that we no longer use. One way to leave only the essential stuff is to remove everything from your work table and sort out what you actually or might need and what you don’t. After you have gone through the process, you can start placing the necessary stuff back and keep the others in storage. You might even find some things you’ll want to let go of.
The key to having a well-organized office is to set a good workflow. Think about the things you use often as well as the things that you deem important, and place them in close proximity, say a nearby drawer or a file organizer. Less important stuff goes to the other drawers. This would save you the hassle of having to go halfway across the room in search for the things you might want or need. You can do the same for your computer files; you can place important documents on your desktop for easy access.
Take steps to improve your office lighting.
You can do a little re-arrangement and place your desk on the spot with the best lighting, either from sunlight sifting through the windows or from a lamp overhead. This tip is especially helpful on dark days.
You can opt to have your office re-painted for a more comfortable and calming atmosphere. Adding decorations can also improve the appearance of your office and make it more inviting to look at.
Make organizing a habit.
At the end of your work shift, allot a few minutes to cleaning up the mess accumulated during the day. This will make your desk work-ready the next day.
